Formal classes aren’t the only way to learn things, but they sure are easier to communicate! My mind works in metaphor a lot so I’m constantly picking up little knowledge nuggets from everywhere, but it’s also nice to have a structure to solidify everything with. I thought I’d experiment with letting people see this side, though I’m not sure anyone would care. If you find it interesting let me know!

Active Courses

I was working on a Systems Scaling class, but realized I could be on the verge of burning myself out. SO, I’m going to take a little break to have fun with some knitting… and possibly how to create puppets! (9/1/2021)

The Complete 2019 Development Bootcamp

by Angela Yu

Because freeCodeCamp got a little flipped on its head, I craved a more stable set to learn from. It’s actually filled in some knowledge I was missing on front-end development, and now I’m starting the back-end portion. I’m exited! Though I do keep getting distracted with where I can fit new things in to my personal projects.

User Experience (UX): The Ultimate Guide to Usability and UX

by David Travis

I’d really like to get into doing more work with data collection and analysis, so I thought it would be a good idea to “level up” my skills with a course!

Free Code Camp

This is a great place to get started with learning/relearning web development! I was very happy with it for a long while, but then they did a major rework of the system and my progress got messed up. That’s a risk you take with free services, I guess! Once you get through it they allow you to contribute, so maybe in the future I’ll help them fix their user experience!

Machine Learning

These have me super pumped to get into when I finally get the chance. One is in JavaScript, so a nice introduction with a familiar language, and the other two deal with Python (a tiny bit familiar) and R (total greenie).

The “Pirate Crew” project I have on my portfolio is actually a little experiment I have going to see how close I can get to mimicking a back and forth conversation as a bot. Right now it just shows the visual side I put in place to make it more fun, but if I can learn a good way to grab and harness data the project will really take off!

WordPress Theme Development

I never really got into WordPress or PHP, but it’s one of those things that I know I should learn. I’ll get to them after I finish the courses more aligned with my true interests.
